From 2009 to 2010, I spent a year working on my 365 Degrees project where I explored various aspects of my identity, such as gender, sexuality, deafness, language, and imagination by taking a self portrait everyday for a year.

At first I started the project simply to inspire some new creativity in myself. I spent my days in a frenzy of putting costumes together, transforming my rooms into studios, and contemplating ways to express what was going on in my head. I would shoot hundreds of photographs a day, then choose the perfect base photo(s) for editing in Photoshop where I experimented various techniques.

Along the way the simple project of taking a self-portrait every day for a year grew to be a personal visual journal. Through my photographs and accompanying written pieces, the project became a way to sort through issues and come to terms with the many faces and aspects of my identity. The project has been a revelation, both in empowerment through artistic expression, and discovering a love for photography itself.
